MIDDLE CLAYDON LIBRARY’S SERVICE

The continued service under wartime difficulties of the Library was-the subject of report at the annual parish meeting of Middle Claydon when there were present ; Mr. A. Powell (whopresided), Mrs. Walker, Miss Lepper with the Clerk to the Council (Mr. C. W. Batsford. An apology was received from the Rev. W. S. Hazledine who was absent through illness. The yearly statements of the Claydon Charities were examined and adopted. The Library report for the year by the Rev. W. S. Hazledine (as Hon. Librarian) was placed before the meeting and the Chairman in proposing a vote of thanks to the Hon. Librarian,’ said the Council was grateful to him for the work put in at the library and ask the Clerk to record this in the minutes. Miss Lepper seconded. The report stated : It is doubtful whether the book industry has ever been through such a difficult time’as at present. Few new books arc being printed and worth-while second-hand books for sale are rarefies. In spite of these difficulties, however, Middle Claydon Public library is able to report considerable activity during 1942-3 and seventeen additional volumes have been placed in the shelves. 903 books have been issued and 170 renewed during the twelve months and fines and fees have brought in 12/7. These figures prove that the demand is as great as,, if not greater* than, ever.” The County Library had again lent 20 volumes and a temporary exchange with Steeple Claydon Library had been effected. Periodicals had been left and passed on to the Forces and a large amount of waste paper had been collected. The’ Hon. Librarian thanked the ladies of the Library Committee who had carried out their duties so regularly and well.
