Steeple Claydon Water Supply

Mr. Burton wished to know

if this special committee had power to write and a.k people to meet the expense of the new water supply. Sir E. Verney thought the committee might do, that, and owners might subscribe if they wished to do so. Personally be should not give one penny ; it was the ratepayers’ basiness, and should not be done H by private subscriptions. e moved that the first part of the report be adopted. Mr. Burton seconded, nod it was agreed to. Mr. Tailby said it had come to the knowledge of the committee that some of the owners had a wish to give the money, and they thought it ought to be accepted. Mr. Burton would probably have agreed if he had been on the committee. • Mr. Burton said be should not ; be did not consider it business-like. They did not mend representatives on that committee to go begging. Mr. Tailby moved that the cert.’ fieate be granted, end Mr. Barba peoooded, and this was met by a direct negative. Considerable discnsaion took place and eventually by 8 votes against 7, it was decided that the certificate be not granted until the water was brought within a reaßouabla distance. On the proposition of Mr. Tailby, seconded by Mr. Sikes. the Surveyor was instructed to prepare an estimate of the cost, and present it at the committee meeting on the following Saturday.
