Parish Council Meetings

The next business was the consideration

of the report of the special committee appointed to confer with the Steeple Clavdon Parish Council, with respect to en additional water supply in the village. Mr. Tailby said that the report was prepared, bat he regretted that it bad not been signed. He would suggest that it be deferred, to allow of the members of the committee perusing it. The Clerk acid us had received a letter from Mr. Woodfield, saying that he had been asked to contribute to the expenses of the additional impply, and that he, with others, had consented to subscribe. He again asked for a water certificate for his new cottages, as it was proposed to bring the water by, and the prospective tenants, who were anxiously waiting to get into the hems«, were willing to fetch water from the existing standpipes. Mr. Dencbfield moved that the report be referred to committee. Mr. Burton said he mud protest against the non. tinual putting-off of this matter. The tenants were waiting, and it was a downright shame that they could not go into the cottages. Mr. Woodfield had done all he could ; and he (Mr. Burt m) did not wish to cast insinuations, but he felt there was a certain amount of antagonistic feeling in the matter. Mr. Denchfield said they had appointed a special committee, who were not prepared to submit their report; and if it was not to be read he thought it ought to go to a committee, which would be the quickest way of getting it through. Mr. Burton said the report was in the room ; why not have it read Mr. Tailby said the special committee had no wish to defer the report, and he thought that it ought to be brought forward. As chairman of the special committee, he had written to all the property owners asking if they would consent to subscribe , towards the cost of the proposed new supply. Mr. Harper asked If such proceedings were in , order ; they had not authorised the committee to make such applications. Mr. Ingram said he bad only received the report by that morning’s post, rnd he had not had time to go through it and got it signed. He thought it ought to go to the committee, as several of the letters written had not yet been answered. Mr. Webb thought the report should be read that day. Donchfield said that as it Was a joint committee, the report should hare been signed by all the members. The Clerk stated that in his opinion that was not necessary. Sir E. Verney thought the Chairman’s signature ought to be sufficient rothication fur the report being read: The Chairman decided that the report should be read. It was follows : (1) Your committee met, with two of the members of the Parish Council, at the Public Library at Claydun on Friday, the 28th ult., and after duly considering the Medical Officer’s report, recommend that the water main be carried to the corner near the Crown Inn. (2) It was further decided that all property owners whose property would benefit by such extension of the main be asked to contribute towards the expecee of such extension, and that the Chair. • man of Committee write to them all to that effect.
