Village Life

THE FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY

of the Steeple Claydon W.I. in October was the chief item of business at the September meeting presided over by Mrs. Ofiord It was decided to ask all the people over 65 years of age living the village to the party. Catering and entertainment sub-committees were arranged. The members were happy to have received letters from the escorts and the coach driver of a party of old folks from the Finsbury Red Cross Club, saying how delighted they had been with their day in the village, and their gifts of country fare. Miss Waddup, of Marsh Gibbon, gave a very interesting and informative demonstration on Glove Making and also sketched a brief history of gloves. The Institute welcomed back Mrs. Read after her long illness and wished Mrs. Flute godspeed on leaving the village and going to Egypt with her husband and family. The prettiest hand-made handkerchief competition was won by Mrs. R. Hodges. The tea hostesses were Mesdames Firth. E. A. Hill, King and Whitty.
