Tliere were two pretty vSteeple Clay, don wedding Saturday, the parties Miss Lilian Gladys Thorpe, of Steeple Claydon, and Private Reginald Cox (Household Cavalry); and Miss Lilian Pitlam. Steeple Claydon, an. Mr. P.d ward Matthews, of Swindon.

Mr Arthur Gibbs to Miss Eliza Webb

Two very interesting weddings were solemnized in the Parish Church the Vicar, the Rev. C. Bass, on the 24th and 25th inst. On Monday the contracting parties were Mr. Arthur Gibbs, H.M. Ist Battalion Scots Guards, and Miss Eliza Webb, third daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Webb, Steeple Claydou. The bridegroom, who served three years in South Africa, wore his uniform, with the medal and five bars, viz., Cape Colony, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, and Belmont. The best man was Mr. Albert Webb (Charndon), H.M. 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards, who also wore his full dress uniform, and modal, with three clasps, viz.. Gape Colony, Orange Free State, and Witeburger. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. E. Webb, wore a lavender dress, trimmed with white silk, and hat to match. Her bridesmaids were the Misses Annie and NeJlie Webb. The lovely flowers were supplied by the uncle of the bride, Mr. J. Gibson.

Samuel Whiting to Miss E Humphreys

On Tuesday the wedding was celej biated Mr. Samuel Whiting, and Miss E. Humphreys. The bride was very nicely dressed I in a pear grey, trimmed with white silk, and was given away Mr. Joseph Whiting. Her bridesmaid was Miss Emma Thorpe, and Mr. John i Whiting acted as best man. The bridegroom being a member of the Church Choir, the latter j attended the ceremony, and the hymns, “The Voice that breathed o’er Eden,” and Lead us Heavenly Father,” worn sung, and Mr. Howard (organist) played the Bridal March at the lieginning of the ceremony, and the Wedding March” at its conclusion. Mr. Samuel Whiting is well-known in the cricket field, and also at our local flower shows, at which he is a noted prize taker. At the invitation of Mr. Whiting, sen., a number of friends wore entertained at his house, and a very pleasant hour was spent. The happy couples in both cases were the. recipients of many useful presents, and hearty congratulations and best wishes. Good Templars.
