A Well-Known Old Resident’* Passing Saturday (December 18th) the village lo*t yet another of its oldest inhabitants the person of Miss Matilda Pollie Tack. She was the last of a family of 13 children. Not only was she born at Claydon but she lived there all her life and was connected with farming right to the time of her death. Her father farmed Furze Farm for many years and later moved to Willow Vale Farm, where Miss Tack died the age of 83. her early days she took active interest in the village and no charitable object suffered in her later days through her incapacity to get out and about. It is interesting to note that she was among the first women jurors. She sat on the panel of jurors in connection with the Bailey case at Aylesbury January 1921. Mr. justice McCardie referred to the sene© of the women jurors and complimented them in following the evidence in such an alert manner. The funeral was on Tuesday December) at Steeple Claydon, the Rev. Gladstone Griffith officiating. Her favourits hymn, Jesu, lover of my soul ”, was sung. The following were the mourners: Mr. and Mrs. Whaley (niece and nephew), Mr. E. Tack (nephew), Mr. and Miss A. Tack (niece and nephew), Mrs. Barrett, Mr. W. H. Cooke. Worksop (friends). Mr. F. Papworth. Joe and Alf (workmen), Mr. A. C. Athay. Among others at the graveside were noticed: Mr. C. Bonner. Mrs. Hedges, Mrs. C. Plant, Mr. and Mrs. I). Harries. Mr. C. J. Biddlccombe. Wreaths were from the folloyving:— Daisy, Bert. Gladys and Eric (London) From Tom and Polly. Win and Alf. Bert and Elsie. Louis and Stan. Bea and Peter. Mr. W. H. Cooke (Worksop). Mr. and Mrs. Papworth, Margaret and Philip. Joe, Alf and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Beckett. Mr. and Mrs. A. Thorpe (Greenwood Place). Members of National Farmers’ Union Mr. J. L. Lindsay (Buckingham).
