A VERY SUCCESSFUL OUT DOOR FETE

was held in the village on Bank Holiday, August 3rd. The crlisket field (by permission of Mr. Dodge. Mr. ‘ Whiting, and the Cricket Club Committee) was utilised for the day’s proceedings, excepting the Jumble Sale, which was held in the Council Schools at 2 o’clock. when the various ” jumbles ” rapidly disappeared. The Fete commenced at three o’clock, by which time a ‘ large number of persons had assembled, including visitors from all the surrounding villages, Buckingham, etc., about 600 paying for admission to the field during the afternoon and evening. A special feature in the day’s programme was the dancing of the Waddesdon Morris Dancers, and also Morris dancing by a party of Claydon schoolgirls, assisted by Miss Butcher and Miss Sacre. The Claydon party had been instructed by Mrs. Bass, the Misses Farmbrough, and Mrs. J. T. Read, and the way in which the youngsters acquitted themselves was the subject of general admiration by the onlookers ; and the Waddesdon party also secured the applause of the company. The St. Michael’s Orchestra, consisting of Mrs. Bass (piano), Mr. Byron Hill (flute), Mr. A. J. Cox (clarionet), Miss Crichton (‘oello),Mr. Crichton (violin), Rev. C. Bass (cornet), Mr. R. Webb (cornet), Miss Russell (violin), Miss M. Farmbrough Messrs. Walton (Waddesdon), and Mr. Newton (Aylesbury), greatly enhanced the enjoyment of all by their able rendering of the music both for the dancing of the Morris Dancers, and also during the tea, and at other intervals. Comic cricket was a very amusing part of the programme, and elicited loud applause, the only criticism heard being that it did not last long enough. A local troupe of niggers gave a abort performance, and met with much applause. Women’s race (blindfold)-1 G. Beckett, 2 Mrs. Tompkins, 3 Mrs. Jennings. ‘Costume race (dancers only)- -1 Mr. Walton’ and Miss Sanders, 2 Miss Figg and Mr. Paredine, 3 Miss Herring and Mr. Btackley. Obstacle rate-1 H. Coleman, 2W. Beckett, 3 T. Perkins. Treacle bun competition-1 A. Paradine, 2 W. Quainton, 3 H. Tompkins. Tilting bucket-1 G. Blake and T. V. Spencer and V. Spencer. of war—Mr. T. Sear’s Ws iskslmil team. were provided on Mrs. Bass, who were the guiding spirits throughout the day, deserve great credit for their indefatigable efforts in every direction, and it is to be hoped that the Church Fabric Fund will benefit considerably from the financial result of the day’s effort
